Promoting Trails, Connecting Communities

The Upper Valley Trails Alliance advocates for the use, maintenance and development of trails in the region. Through education, outreach & stewardship we:

  • promote active lifestyles through trail use in all seasons
  • connect people and places through a regional trail network
  • lead a coalition of local trail groups and advocates

Promoting Active Lifestyles

We aim to build the most comprehensive trail resource available for the Upper Valley. Any season of the year, you can log on and find a trail to enjoy. We also provide printed guides and recreation books like the kids' Passport to Winter Fun. Check back often as we build out the trails directory, and help out by sharing your favorite trails.

Connecting People and Places

Trails are the geographic lifeblood of our community. Through volunteer efforts, we coordinate the maintenance of existing trails and the construction of new ones. We work closely with landowners and municipalities to secure access rights so that all may enjoy the benefits of trails. Whenever possible, we connect trails with each other to provide new avenues for recreation and travel.

Leading a Trails Coalition

From the Andover Mountaineers to the Windsor Sno Travelers, the Upper Valley is blessed with an abundance of trails groups. These groups cover diverse activities ranging from foot travel to motor sports, all linked by the common goal of securing safe, open, and respectful access to trails. We support all these groups and work together toward our common goals.

Strategic Plan and Vision 2020

During 2009, the Board and staff of the Upper Valley Trails Alliance engaged in a year long strategic planning process. With support from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and the Children's Fund of the Upper Valley, we hired outside consultants to guide the process. Throughout the year, the organization worked on internal assesments and outside interviews and surveys. We ended the process with a day-long retreat.

The outcome is a robust organizational vision that will guide UVTA through 2020. In addition, we created 3 strategic initiatives to help us determine the work we will perform annually plus long range budget forecasts and staff growth charts.
